Sinop Energia

EDF’s first hydroelectric business in Brazil, the Sinop Hydroelectric Power Plant is being built in the municipality of Sinop, in the state of Mato Grosso, on the Teles Pires river, in a partnership between EDF Norte Fluminense (51%), Eletronorte (24.5% %) and Chesf (24.5%), both subsidiaries of the Eletrobrás Group, operating in the generation of electric power in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil.

The endeavor known as ‘Sinop Energia’ will have a reservoir of 352km² (3 billion m³) and an installed capacity of 401.88 MW, and is expected to start operating in 2018, with EDF Norte Fluminense taking over the operation of the Hydroelectric Power Plant.
